What does it mean to having branding photography? I hear this question a lot these days and I get why. With the rise of photographers offering “branding photography” versus headshots it can get confusing.
Today’s business isn’t just a logo and a website and a headshot taken against a while wall in the about me. More and more consumers are choosing who they do business with because they are connecting to the business and in a lot of cases, the business owner. One of the easiest ways for a customer to connect with you is to see you and what your brand stands for, visually.
Branding photography encompasses headshots but takes it a step further. It puts you, the story and vibe of your brand and your product or service together to tell a cohesive visual story that you can share on your website and social media.
As any business owner today knows, regular content is what is driving sales and content that connects your ideal client to you is key. You can create content in many ways beyond photography including graphics and videos and all of these visual elements create your visual brand. It is so important that these elements be representative of you and your brand with a cohesive look and feel that is authentic to you!
I create your branding images through photography. I ask you a series of questions that help me understand your brand vibe and from there together we collaborate on location and outfits. These questions also give me an idea of poses for your visual goals, ie. more powerful, more cheerful, spiritual, etc. I also like to get you interacting with your product or service in a way that is inspiring and compels people to engage with you!
Let me put this another way. When you put your vibe into the world to attract your ideal client. I’m not here for a stuffy headshot, and you aren’t either. You want to celebrate yourself and your business and how far you have come already because you really deserve it. Branding photography does all of that!
How often do you need branding photography? I think this depends on what you do but I would say many product and service based businesses should consider quarterly brand photograph with a larger session once a year. To stay current, to stay connected and as we as people might change, your brand may shift some, too.
What do I do in branding photography? Show yourself with your product, interacting with your clients or just living your brand values. Show yourself hard at work, or doing your favorite things. You don’t have to do all of these things at every session but it’s a good thing to have in mind. What is the heart you and you the heart of you business. What are you doing that will attract your ideal clients to you?
I’ll post a series of tips from what to wear and how to pose over the next few months so stay tuned!! And if you’re looking to have an easy way to get this quarters branding photography check out my event: Branding & Beverages with Jessica Fredericks on 11/5!
